An Interview with Shana Gray

A Cowboy in Paradise frontHer island nights are heating up!

Losing her luggage was Jimi Calloway’s first clue that her friend’s Hawaiian destination wedding would be a nightmare. The fact that it’s at a ranch instead of on the beach and she’ll be “glamping”? It’s officially the Vacation from Hell. Until this city girl gets a glimpse of her smokin’-hot cowboy guide. Suddenly this vacation is looking up…

Sure, Jimi’s designer wardrobe is lost somewhere over the ocean, but she’s too busy learning just how incredible—and incredibly wicked—”roughing it” with the sexy, rugged Dallas Wilde can be to care. Besides, it’s only a vacation fling… Only, no one warned Jimi how easy it was to fall for a cowboy in paradise.

Mr Monday

Meet Mr Monday…in Working Girl: Part 1. A sexy new serial, perfect for fans of Audrey Carlan’s Calendar Girl.

A sexy seven-day job interview. Seven irresistible interviewers. Who will she choose at the end of the week?

Tess has been determined to get revenge for her father, ever since he was falsely accused of misusing company funds and unceremoniously let go from Diamond Enterprises. Applying to be Executive Assistant to the elusive, elderly head of the company, Mr King, seems the ideal way to get inside the firm and clear his name.

But the job interview is not what she expects. Arriving at the company HQ, she is escorted to a helicopter, blindfolded and flown to a secret location. She meets a man whose voice is disguised, but introduces himself as Mr King and says the job advertisement was a ruse to find the new CEO of Diamond Enterprises. The catch, the interviewer says, is that the job will only be hers if she passes a seven-day interview.

Tess will have seven mysterious men who will assist her – one for each task each day. She will have to use all of her skills if she’s to succeed and to resist the powerful magnetism of the irresistible men sent to help – or distract – her. Or will Tess find herself losing her heart when she meets her man of the week?

Mr Monday, Mr Tuesday, Mr Wednesday, Mr Thursday, Mr Friday, Mr Saturday, Mr Sunday. Meet all seven in Working Girl – who will be your man of the week?

Hi Shana, welcome to Amanda Writes.

1. When did you first realize you wanted to become a writer and what inspired your first book?

I read everything I could get my hands on in grade school. Mostly stories about horses. Then I graduated to romance when I was 12 and *Santa* put a book in my stocking. The first time I wrote anything was in Grade 10 and my teacher really liked it. So that was the beginning. My first book ever published was No Fantasy Required, it was a menage. It’s not out now, but I do have the rights back.

2. Plotter or panster?

Panster all the way! Although I have learned to write a synopsis because proposals need them.

3. Your latest novel is titled A COWBOY IN PARADISE. What influenced you to write this story and what can readers expect? Is it connected to other books? If yes, please enlighten readers about the connecting books.

It is my second Harlequin Blaze and the couple in More than a Fling do make a cameo. Both books are set in Hawaii. I love it there so it was wonderful to use it as a setting. Both books are very hot, explicit and I was glad that Harlequin let me push the envelope!

I also want to give a shout out to my awesome serial WORKING GIRL. It came out in November and then in January in Brazil, translated into Portuguese – it’s a top seller in Brazil and I’m so thrilled. Four more translations will be coming out as well. German is coming in November and the covers have been released – the books will be titled Diamond Men, isn’t that an awesome name?

4. Tell us a little about your hero and heroine in this story.

Dallas and Jimi appear to come from completely different lives. But as the book progresses, you begin to realize that there is a common tie from a long time ago. Dallas is dedicated to his family and business, as Jimi is to her business. Both are determined to be the best at what they do and then, oh oh, love and passion step in to rock their world!

In WORKING GIRL, Tess is on a seven day interview with a new sexy and intriguing man each day as her interviewer. She has to pass a test each day before she can move on to the next one. My favourite tag line for the book is She is young, beautiful and hungry for revenge.

5. Do you have any favorite line/s in (name of book)?

“This filly will be one wild ride.”

Guess who says that 🙂

6. What’s the most fascinating thing a reader has said to you regarding your books?

I’m surprised when they tell me they laughed and found something funny. I never really think of myself at writing comedy, I don’t intentionally do it, but sometimes it must come through in a place or two 🙂  I love that readers recognize my heroine’s are feisty too!

7. What book is on top of your TBR pile?

Oh wow, so many I can’t bear to look!

8. What are you currently working on and what other projects can readers expect from you in the near future?

Right now I’m working on Crush, a captor turns protector then lover story. I’m also working on a proposal for the new Harlequin DARE line, so keep your fingers crossed for me. AND I’m polishing up a submission for Desire…yes, you read that right! lol

9. Any advice for aspiring writers?

In this rapidly changing world of publishing I think it’s important to know and fully understand that everyone’s path is different, unique and their own. You can’t compare yourself to others. And be kind.  We’re all in this together *group hug*

  1. Super interview! I think I recently fell in love with Shana Gray when I saw her reaction to seeing her book in the shops! Such a wonderful thing to do! It’s always nice to read what inspires authors to write. Can’t wait to read ‘A Cowboy in Paradise.’ 🙂

    • Thank you! It was the only place I was able to actually find my book. I was so afraid I was going to get in trouble if they caught me!

      • Ha ha! I did think if security asked what you were doing and you couldn’t prove you were, ‘you’, you would’ve ended up having to buy your own book! But worth the risk, you will have a very excited reader when they open it! It sounds great, looking forward to reading it Shana. Great interview 🙂
