Out of the shadows…
As the illegitimate secret daughter of royalty, Cat’s life has been far from luxurious. After years of bullying, she’s set against a return to her childhood home. But her princess half sister has mysteriously disappeared ahead of her engagement to charismatic King Alexander.
…into the bed of the king!
Cat agrees to stand in for her–but she didn’t agree to the electric attraction between her and Alex! He might have no idea who she really is–but when their insatiable desire threatens to strip away every boundary between them, Cat cannot hold back from the temptation of Alex’s caress.
His Majesty’s Temporary Bride, the first book in Annie West’s new duet, The Princess Seductions, is simply breathtaking. There is a perfect balance between angst, seduction and drama to keep you engrossed. Compelling from page one, His Majesty’s Temporary Bride follows the journey between King Alexander, the enigmatic hero and Cat, a tough-as-nails bodyguard cum illegitimate princess and the heroine who’ll make this king weak in the knees. I loved how the author incorporated sparkly prose; scintillating chemistry and taut dialogue which keep the pacing of the story on a constant roll. I was also mesmerized by the layering of the backstories. It made the story enjoyable. Also the world building felt so realistic and the characters propelled the story forward.
Alex is broody, sexy and ridiculously rich and he doesn’t mind pushing the boundaries to suit his liking. I wouldn’t say I adored him every minute of the book, but he’s charming and hilarious when he wants to be. Cat on the other hand is a breath of fresh air. Her unique personality makes you root for her instantly. Her emotional back-story is something else. She isn’t someone who’d want you to pity her. But the lemons life has tossed her way makes your heart stir for her. Honestly, I adored her!
What I liked about His Majesty’s Temporary Bride:
1. The world building. I pictured Bengria in my mind throughout reading this book. Annie West sure does know a thing or two about adding spark to her fictional kingdoms.
2. The writing—it oozes with beauty.
3. The dialogue—Heated. Passionate. Engaging.
4. The characters—they drove the story forward with their antics.
5. The plot—character driven from start to finish.
6. The ending—wow, beautiful. All that angst, drama, and passion whittles down to a swoon-worthy end!
Overall, His Majesty’s Temporary Bride by Annie West is excellence to the highest. I swooned over almost every scene where Alex and Cat locked horns. The story reminded me of the good old classic Harlequin Presents from the early 2000’s and I couldn’t get enough of it! Now I can’t wait to read Princess Amelie’s love story in, The Greek’s Forbidden Princess, the second book in the duet.
