1. Hi Mollie, welcome to Amanda Writes. Please tell readers a little about yourself.
Hi Amanda. Thanks for inviting me to appear on your blog. Living in Cheshire in the heart of the UK, I’m a former finance director who has turned from working with spreadsheets to writing about fun in between the bed sheets.
2. When did you first realize you wanted to become a writer and what inspired your first book?
As a child I loved writing stories but fate led me to become a qualified accountant. After absolutely loving my job I left the world of finance to spend more time with my three year-old child. But by the time he was seven I knew I needed to do something different. Being a stay-at-home mum wasn’t for me – I’m allergic to housework and suffer withdrawal symptoms if I don’t have a challenge. I read Fifty Shades of Grey and a lot of other sexy stories and decided I wanted to write my own, with a good plot. And being able to work at home enabled me to still share in my child’s day including walking him to school everyday.
3. Plotter or pantser?
Bit of a pantser really. I have an outline of a plot, which is very important as I set out to have an element of danger for the protagonists to overcome to achieve their HEA. I need to make sure I do my research, that my timeline works etc. but I let the story evolve as the characters come to life. Sometimes they will lead my down an unexpected path.
4. What is the title of your upcoming release and can you talk briefly about it?
Keeping You has just been published by Black Opal Books. It’s the story of a man who has escaped a dark life in London but remains hell bent on seeking justice for the murder of his best friend. Living a lonely, celibate life in Cheshire, he falls in love for the first time and, as his past catches up with him, he prays he can keep the woman he loves. But can she accept him for all he is? And will he survive the dangers that still lie ahead of him?
5. What message do you anticipate readers to draw from this story?
Love conquers all. Wherever you come from, wherever life takes you, if you have someone to love, and trust, it will all be worthwhile.
6. What book is on top of your TBR pile?
Currently The Violet Crab by Bob Bickford
7. How long does it take you to write the first draft of a story?
About nine months. My stories tend to be long – 100k plus words.
8. Have you ever been stuck with writer’s block? If yes, how do you deal with it?
Welcoming a Newfoundland puppy into our home presented my writing with a brick wall. Working from home I thought I would be able to write and keep my eye on Pepper. But no. I needed both eyes, and my mind, on her. I stopped writing totally for 3 months. Picking back up on it has been a struggle. In addition to still looking after the dog, whom we absolutely love, coping with a thirteen year-old in the house, and working on edits for Keeping You ready for publication, I am now trying to get back into my writing zone.
9. What are you currently working on?
A story about a youth who goes off the rails when he is involved in the accidental death of a friend. He loses his girlfriend, his performance at school plummets, and his father, an ex army major, steps in to take control. He sends Ezra away to live in a strange house and attend college. But his education will not be “ordinary” as he must comply with the rules of the house. He is then driven to join the army, never meeting anyone quite like the young girl he lost. Until, of course, he does meet her again…
10. Any advice for aspiring writers?
Start and finish your story. What you choose to do with it after that is up to you. But don’t leave an unfinished story in your drawer. And don’t seek perfection, seek passion in your work and it won’t need to be perfect, just wonderful.
His past haunts him. Revenge drives him. Can her love save him?
After a chance meeting in a bookshop, young Suzy Harper is engaged by multi-multimillionaire, Lawrence Bane, to work on translating a French document. They embark on an intense relationship, but he is surrounded by mystery and shame as demons from his past threaten to destroy everything he has worked for, including her love for him.
This exciting erotic romantic thriller traces the increasingly intense and tender relationship between the inexperienced Suzy and her wealthy, troubled lover, Lawrence. There are two obsessions in Lawrence’s life—his passion for Suzy and his drive for revenge against the gangland boss who murdered his best friend.
Will Suzy be strong enough to accept Lawrence for the man he is? Will Lawrence trust the woman he loves enough to reveal his darkest secrets to her? Will their love survive the challenges that lie ahead?
